Carers

The GP Partners at Mann Cottage surgery are aware that the responsibilities and duties of caring for someone can be stressful and, at times, detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the carer.

Are you a Carer?

A carer is someone of any age who looks after and provides unpaid support to a friend, relative or neighbour who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness or disability.

We hold a Carer’s Register - please help us to keep this up to date. If you are a carer download and complete the Carers Registration Form.

Are you an adult Carer with someone at home or in the neighbourhood who depends on you to help with everyday living?

Are you a young Carer? Are you looking after a parent? Don’t be afraid to ask for help from friends or relatives, you can also ask Teachers, Social Workers, Doctors and Nurses for help and advice.

Telling your GP can help make sure you get the support and care you need.

If you want your GP to know that you are a Carer please ask Reception for a Carers’ Registration form and hand the completed form back to Reception for your records to be updated.

See our Useful Links page for other services and useful contact numbers.

Reception staff can give you information sheets with helpful telephone contact numbers.

If you need any help making phone calls or accessing care websites for carer information a named member of the Reception team will assist you.

Positive Caring Programme

What is the Positive Caring Programme?

Positive Caring is a programme of 6 sessions for people who care for a relative, friend, neighbour or child with a disability / additional needs. They are arranged across the country so carers can access them close to where they live.

There are programmes for all carers (not condition specific) and programmes for Parent Carers and people who care for someone with dementia, mental health and substance misuse issues.

Facilitators for the programme in most cases have a health or social care background and either have had or still have a caring role.

The sessions enable carers to meet others in similar situations and gain and share information. It provides an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills required by a carer and to find solutions to problems.

Carers Events

Managing Memory ²gether is a specialist NHS service for Gloucestershire that supports people affected by memory problems and their associated difficulties. Look out for upcoming Session dates in your area.
